The Mission Ministry at St. Peter strives to promote ways in which we can live out our call to be good stewards by sharing our time, talent, and treasure with others here at home and at our sister parish in San Miguel  Ixtahuacan, Guatemala.

The ministry was formed in response to the great need created after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast.  Through the timely generosity of many parishioners from St. Peter we were able to respond and help those in need, specifically by assisting families displaced from New Orleans.  On a later trip we traveled to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pearl River, Louisiana to assist those who were devastated by the hurricane.

Here in our Diocese of Palm Beach, we have traveled as a group to Pahokee, near Lake Okeechobee and assisted at St. Mary Catholic Church.  More opportunities are coming up in which we can help make a difference in the lives of those who experience great need close to home.

Our parish is multi-cultural.  Beginning in 2003, St. Peter began an active outreach to the Hispanic population in Jupiter.  A Spanish Mass and Hispanic ministry began and bore fruit immediately.  The Hispanic community now finds St. Peter a very welcoming spiritual home.  The creation of El Sol Jupiter Neighborhood Resource Center began with a series of organizational meetings and events and the creation of a coalition of groups coming together to serve so many in our community.

With the welcoming of our Hispanic community, we have also grown in our awareness of the situations which they come from, especially in Guatemala.  This has led us to form a “sister Parish” relationship with San Miguel Catholic Church in San Miguel Ixtahuacan, Guatemala.

The goals of our ministry are to:

  • Share our blessings with others and in the process grow in our awareness that we are all members of the Body of Christ
  • Learn the joy of generosity
  • Empower others with self-confidence and self-sufficiency
  • Advocate for the poor, the underprivileged, and those who cannot speak for themselves
  • Learn the culture and values of those we minister to and grow in our understanding and worldview
  • Educate and share our experiences with others
